GLAAD advises on trans-centric terms; we advise on pre-movie edicit
Our more respectable cronies at GLAAD are calling on the media to use accurate terminology when referring to the transgender characters in the movies Rent, TransAmerica, and Breakfast on Pluto. It's not "sex change," it's "sexual reassignment surgery." It's not "transvestite," it's "cross-dresser" or "drag queen." You get the gist?
Not to be outdone, we are calling on audience members to stop f**king moaning and groaning when they see Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger cuddling in the Brokeback Mountain trailer that commonly plays prior to the aforementioned films. Even if it's not your cup of tea, there's no reason to boo and say "ugh, dude, that's sick," unless, of course, you're "overcompensating." Grow up.
