GLAAD on potential Wills, Ellens, and 'that gay guy from Real World'ers

by Jeremy Hooper

Our more respectable, organized, and financed friends at GLAAD are applauding the variety of LGBT characters scheduled to hit TV screens in the upcoming months, when four new network shows and a host of cable and reality programs will bring more gay people into America's living rooms.

Along these same lines, we'd like to go on record as saying that while inhabiting said living rooms, we hope the gays will do a little more than just redecorate, criticize America's pajamas, or teach them how frying their popcorn in olive oil can both increase flavor and reduce fat. While these are all valuable skills, America having a collective "Eureka!"-like moment of "gays aren't evil" realization is a much more exciting prospect than is the potential that our hetero friends will learn the joys of daily moisturizing.

According to the GLAADers, NBC's "The Book of Daniel," ABC's "Emily's Reasons Why Not" and "Crumbs," and CBS's "Love Monkey," will all feature gay characters in lead or supporting roles

Sadly, according to a quick study of their broadcast existence, we predict that "The 700 Club" will still not.
