Gay Mormon latter-day painted as incompatible with church
Buckley Jeppson (l.), a gay Mormon who legally married his partner (Michael Kessler, r.) in Canada, says he's been told that his life is incompatible with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints doctrine and that disciplinary action, including possible excommunication, could be taken.
Which is of course horrible; if someone forced your humble scribe to "communicate" with his "ex"...well, let's just say it wouldn't be a pleasant picture. Eee, just an awful thought, that.
Olin Thomas from the gay Mormon group Affirmation tells the AP that it is believed that if Jeppson is excommunicated, it would be the first time a Mormon in a legal same-sex marriage would be punished by the church. So look on the bright side, Buckley -- at least you'd be a pioneer! Though we do hear there was once a gay moron who was punished by the church for being so damn stupid they could barely take it. Like the kind of dumb where you're sorta laughing/sorta getting angry/ sorta gnawing through your wrist in a desperate attempt to make the misery of the ineptitude end. Yea, he was punished, that moron.
It remains to be seen how this will all play out. We do remain hopeful, although we must admit we'll be shocked if "Oh, I totally forgot to buy you a wedding gift! Where is my head?" is the reaction Jeppson's legally wedded bliss ultimately receives from church higher-ups. Sad but true.
