Equality Riders head to West Point; ill-mannered, Cali-bound Midwesterners head west, point
The folks with the Soulforce Equality Ride [who grace this month's Advocate cover (pic.)] will tomorrow pull their acceptance-encouraging bus up to the gates of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where they will hold a demonstration outside. Due to a law that prevents protests on federal land, the Riders will not be allowed on the campus; due to a law that prevents truthful gays from joining the military, the campus exclusion seems fitting.
Not to be outdone in the military policy-protesting fun, we plan tomorrow to walk over to the Westernmost Point of our apartment and ask our G.I. Joe action figure why he takes a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" approach to...well, everything. We promise to keep you posted on both situations.
