   A.M Rosenthal, the former NY Times editor who famously barred writers from using the word "gay" to refer to "homosexuals," has passed away at age 84.

In lieu of "flowers," well-wishers are instead being asked to honor Mr. Rosenthal's memory by sending "polychromatic blossoms of aromatic flora."
