Potential CCL of Maine snow job invalidated by Snowe's job
A judicial panel has ruled that the gay-unfriendly folks at the Christian Civic League of Maine cannot air a radio ad encouraging Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to vote in favor of the so-called "Marriage Protection Amendment," because the planned air-date would be too close to the June 13 primaries (wherein Snowe is up for re-election). Poor dears.
The AP quotes the nixed ad as saying:
"Unfortunately, your senators voted against the Marriage Protection Amendment two years ago. Please call Sens. Snowe and Collins immediately and urge them to support the Marriage Protection Amendment when it comes to a vote in early June."
Because "Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, we simply don't care for gays" would've been too honest.
CCL had wanted to air the ad before June's Senate vote on the federal marriage amendment. We say: "Ooh, but now can you save it for our soon-to-become-a-reality gay wedding, where we can debut it ironically. A real crowd pleaser, that'll be!"
