Report: Mary Cheney struggled with affection for Bush; also, get your mind out of the gutter

by Jeremy Hooper

In an interview with Diane Sawyer (which airs tonight on "Primetime Live"), Mary Cheney (pic.) reveals that she would have supported a Bush re-election even if her father hadn't been on the ticket, but that due to the administration's stance on gay marriage, she "struggled with [her] decision to stay on the 2004 campaign."

Proving she's not so unlike us, as due to the administration's support of marriage inequality, we struggled with our decision to stay on the 2004 terra firma of America. Fortunately our love for our country prevailed, just as we'd imagine Mary's apparent fondness for her party, father, and scathing criticism from all directions also triumphed in the end.

It remains to be seen if the interview will make Mary less "damned is she does, damned if she doesn't" with groups on both sides of the aisle; though we do hear it might make her merely "cursed if she says one thing, blasted if she says another." Which, for the openly gay daughter of the vice president serving in one of the most conservative administration's we've ever known, would likely be a welcome step.
