Skewed 'pro-fam' news: Pride rally, Christian gathering -- pick one or the other

by Jeremy Hooper

In a small piece titled "Christians Outnumber Homosexuals In 2 Rallies," Southern Baptist news source BP News says today:

Homosexuals in Sao Paulo, Brazil, went to the streets en masse June 18 in a parade that drew 2.4 million people -- but a rally the day before by Christians drew even more people, an estimated 3 million, the Associated Press reported.

The 10th annual Sao Paulo Gay Pride Parade, according to AP, included "go-go boys and drag queens dancing on the roofs of sound trucks." Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil.

On June 17 a "March for Jesus" rally drew an estimated 3 million people in the same city. They sang, listened to bands and marched. The number of evangelicals in Brazil grew annually by 8 percent from 1991 to 2000, AP said, and Brazil is 74 percent Roman Catholic.

Because in case you didn't know, "Christian" and "homosexual" are diametrically opposed concepts. All of you who thought one was an orientation and the other a religion -- you're fools, foolish simpletons. So there's absolutely no way that any of the estimated 3 million at the Christian parade could have been gay or gay-friendly, right? :: writer rolls eyes in the most dramatic of fashions::

Speaking to another point, nowhere in any of the literature or news reports for the Christian rally, called the "March for Jesus," is there even a mention of gay rights, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, or anything of that matter. In fact, you get 106 hits if you search for "March of Jesus" in Google News, yet if you add the search criteria "gay" or "homosexual," you get exactly one hit -- the above BP News story. On that same token, if you search for the "Southern Baptist Convention" in Google News and include the term "gay," you get a whopping 431 stories! Interesting, right?

Be sure to keep an eye out for future BP News misrepresentations, where we hear they'll next expose how the total number of folks who celebrate Christmas is greater than the number of folks who spend December 25 with a same-sex partner.
