True to name, Victory defending Todd's fund victory

by Jeremy Hooper

The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund is lashing out against members of the Alabama Democratic party, who've been accused of trying to influence a panel hearing a challenge to the election of openly gay Patricia Todd (pic.). Of the situation, Victory's Chuck Wolfe says:

"The Alabama Democratic Party shows little inclination to conduct a fair hearing based on the merits of the challenge, and we have lost faith in that process. It's unthinkable that in 2006 some politically powerful insiders still consider themselves untethered to democratic principles and superior to the electorate. If the party has no intention of protecting the rights of voters, then we intend to ask the courts to step in to do so"

And here we thought the election of Alabama's first openly gay official was going to go smoothly. ::sigh::

Todd's contest hearing is now scheduled for this Thursday; here's hoping the Victory folks will not have to change their name to the Defeated But Not Deterred Alliance.
