POTUS comments on Jersey ruling; sadly, 'I know a lovely little chapel in Asbury Park' was not his statement
Reuters quotes President Bush as saying at an appearance in Des Moines, Iowa today:
"Yesterday in New Jersey, we had another activist court issue a ruling that raises doubts about the institution of marriage. I believe that marriage is a union between a man and a woman"
The only question: Nowadays, is the President's condemnation a bad thing, or it actually advantageous for gay marriage advocates? Because honesty, it seems at this point even the conservatives are like "Uhm, Mr. President -- we're actually good. Why don't you go read a book or something?"
As for the President's words themselves: The only "doubts about the institution of marriage" that should be altered are those of gays and lesbians, whose eventual access to the institution is now a little less "doubtful." As for his thoughts on the court: They weren't so much "activist" as they were "accurate."
Mr. Bush: Your lines have become lame, duck.
