Still giving us PukeGreenMouth: Brownback continues stink over judicial nominee
In an appearance on ABC's "This Week" program, Sam Brownback (pic.), Republican U.S. Senator from the state of Kansas, indicated that he is still looking into whether or not judicial nominee Janet Neff's appearance at a 2002 lesbian couple's commitment ceremony will affect her potential rulings on same-sex marriage or civil unions. Brownback said of Neff's support of her lesbian friends:
āBut what I want to know is what does it do to her look at the law? What does she consider the law on same-sex marriage, on civil unions, and Iād want to consider thatā
Because, of course, a judge is not allowed to have actually EXPERIENCED something on which they might later make a reasoned assessment. Know a friend who once had an abortion? Studied a form of science that didn't involve an 'intelligent design' discussion? Ever owned or been scared to own a gun? Well sorry, judges who are also humans, but you are all disqualified!
So narrow.
No word on whether Brownback would be just as concerned with Ms. Neff's unbiased outlook on gay marriage had she protested outside of the ceremony instead of attending. Though considering his side's general feeling that rulings are outrageous and extreme only if they go against their own world views, we'd imagine a Neff who'd told her gay friends that they were "living in sin" would be a Neff who is currently living with mucho conservative support. But whatever -- let Brownback keep causing a stink over this. After all, if these characters don't keep reminding the American public of just how extreme the GOP's current brand of extremism truly is, folks may forget to respond on voting day 2008 in ways similar to voting day 2006.
