This December, religious groups to focus on another Mary's delivery

by Jeremy Hooper

The always quick-to-demonize folks at Focus on the Family have finally broken their crippling silence regarding Mary Cheney's womb. Here's a statement from FOF's Carrie Gordon Earll, as broadcast on CNN at 4:45PM today:

Oh, but who needs a mom and a dad when you have thousands of "pro-family" folks giving you advice on how best to raise your children? They say it takes a village to raise a kid, and Ms. Cheney certainly has full cities worth of the kinds of folks who helped bring her dad to power just rarin' to tell her why, exactly, her fifteen year relationship and uber-wealthy household is simply not a fit environment for child rearing. For Mary's not only birthing a new child; she's also giving birth to an utter sh*t storm, which will surely be stirred up by those who claim to be so dedicated to the welfare of family, life, and yes, children.

Focus on the Family has gotten out early with the kinds of opinions you simply can't find in the Dr. Spock manuals. Now it's you're move, Family Research Council, American Family Association, Traditional Values Coalition, and Concerned Women For America. We have an excited expectant mother here! We're sure there's nothing she needs or wants more than to hear why, exactly, you ultra-moral types find her situation unsavory!

**Also: Concerned Women For America's Janice Crouse adds her voice to the "debate":

"It's very disappointing that a celebrity couple like this would deliberately bring into the world a child that will never have a father," ... "They are encouraging people who don't have the advantages they have."

And per CWA's site:

So glad to hear that Mary's insemination is getting Ms. Crouse bookings!

Hey Jan -- we hear Ellen and Portia are planning on saying "I love you" to each other tomorrow. You free?
