'I wish I knew how to sue you'

by Jeremy Hooper

ImagedbJanice Scott-Blanton, author of the novel My Husband is on the Down Low and I Know About It, has filed a $250 million copyright infringement suit against the folks responsible for Brokeback Mountain, claiming there are substantial similarities between her work and the film.

Meaning, of course, that her piece must've also been passed over for a prominent award in favor of a far-less-superior work of art.

Obviously.

Like Andy over at Towleroad, we do find it a little bizarre that nowhere in the press release on this matter does Ms. Scott-Blanton acknowledge that Brokeback was actually a short story long before it was a film (and long before Ms. Blanton's book was written), with her opting instead to target the movie folks with her lawsuit.

::sigh:: Doesn't anybody read and then proceed to file a plagiarism suit anymore? People -- the book is usually so much better to file likely-baseless claims against!
