Sticks and stones may break my gay bones, but legislation will protect me

by Jeremy Hooper

Iowa-1A bill that would protect Iowa gay and lesbian students from bullying has passed the Senate and will now go to the house for approval. And in more encouraging news for the bill, Gov. Chet Culver seems poised to sign the bill if it makes it to his desk.

Promising news for the state's gay students; less exciting for varsity "Smear The Queer" champions.

If passed, the measure would require schools to report anti-gay harassment to the state and indicate what they did in response to the incident. If it fails -- eh, well, that whole "I'm rubber your glue" thing sort of works, right?

Your thoughts

Hate to quibble, but Chet Culver (D) is the new governor of Iowa.

OOPS! Corrected.

And please, by all means, quibble away! If there is an error, we want to know about it!!!
