ACT UP parties like it's 1989

by Jeremy Hooper

32907Actup2007017-ViACT UP held a 20th anniversary action yesterday in lower Manhattan. While we were unable to make it to this one, Joe.My.God, Blabbeando, Rex Wockner, and Queer Justice League did make it down to witness close to a thousand people demand health care for all, single-payer national health insurance, and drug price controls in the United States:

ACT UP protest: Same old BS, twenty years later [Blabbeando]
Queer Justice League [QJL] 27 Arrested at ACT UP 20th Birthday Demo [Wockner]
Arrests Taking Place At ACT-UP Demo [JMG]

27 were arrested. Body bags were dragged out. Larry Kramer was angry. Hell, throw in a little bit of "Freedom 90"...

...and we'd swear we're writing this on a Tandy computer so that we can print it out on a dot matrix and hand it to people as they leave the premiere screening of Longtime Companion!

Unfortunately, there is still just as much a need for protest on our issues as their was in those gay days gone by. So keep ACTing UP, kids -- next time we promise to be there in acid washed denim person.

*UPDATE: And here's some video from Andres Duque:

Your thoughts

Wow forget outside...this was George Michael's coming out video. How did I miss it? I loved the song but never knew he had half naked supermodels in various shades of semi-darkness lipsyncing for his video. How was the straight population so shocked by his arrest for fornicating in a park bathroom??
