Affordable suites, just don't bring your sweets
A South Carolina same-sex couple claims that when they recently inquired about residence at their local branch of the Affordable Suites of America chain, the receptionist refused to rent to them because they are gay. The pair, Jason Pickel and Darren Black Bear, claim that the receptionist told them point blank, "We do not rent to gay people."
Frightening.
The hotel chain is, of course, chalking it up to a misunderstanding, with the hotel owner telling a local news outlet that "they were just trying to stop two single people from being in the same bed" (as if that's somehow a more acceptable policy). However, looking at the men's last names, we actually see an easy out for the chain: Just say you don't allow black bears and pickles in your beds! We're sure there are some that will believe you.
