Video: Irish Queer eyes not as a-smiling as they'd like
So your humble scribe/ videographer woke up this morning rarin' to shoot the Irish Queers' annual protest of the continued homophobia displayed by the organizers of the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade. Unfortunately, his camera was not quite as rarin to go', as his dumb ass forgot to charge the battery last night.
Sorry!
However, here is some footage I was able to get from the early stages of the protest, as well as some background and other schtuff:
What I really would've liked to have gotten were such "lovely" scenes such as the loud, obnoxious reveler who was just a'spewing anti-gay sentiment as he watched the protest from afar. Or the very sophisticated Manhattanite who, upon reaching the corner of 58th and 5th, caught gander of the protest and uttered in her most beleaguered voice, "Oh God, gay activists!" as if they were (a) ruining her experience and (b) acting outside of the realm of decency by standing up for their rights. Alas, lack of battery juice will allow those and other assorted bouts of queer-unfriendly verbal diarrhea to go undocumented this year.
But despite all this -- happy St. Paddy's Day, everyone! As you go about your day drinking green beer and pinching the ones among us who are opting for blue or red attire, please keep hope alive that NYC's parade organizers will wise up before March of 2008!

Your thoughts
As someone who is actually 1/4th Irish I agree that the blatant homophobia is quite disturbing. It's the damned Catholic Church that ruins everything, yet they have a Prada wearing queen as the chief.
It boggles the mind.
