Romney CoMitts himself to same ol' bullMitt
In light of the news that his successor has ordered 26 out-of-state same-sex marriages to be recognized, former Massachusetts governor and current GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has once again voiced support for a federal marriage amendment. He said in a statement:
"As the governor of Massachusetts having seen the advent of same-sex marriage in my state, and recognizing that with the new governor, people are going to be coming to Massachusetts, getting married in Massachusetts and then going home to their home states, it strikes me that you have to have a national standard"
But of course the "national standard" of letting ALL TAX-PAYING COUPLES WHO COMPRISE THIS NATION JOIN IN CIVIL MATRIMONY is totally out of the question. No, we must have the sort of "national standard" wherein religious beliefs and flawed arguments about "protecting marriage" are used to bastardize the Constitution. The sort of "national standard" that tells the nation that gay couples deserve sub-standard recognition. The kind of "national standard" that, even if adopted, would obviously be rendered null and void in the near future, as gay marriage acceptance only grows with every passing year (as folks wise up to the true nature of the "fight").
You know, the sort of national standard that used to be infuriating and noxious, but is now starting to seem just downright cruel? Yea that's the one Mitt's seeking!
So be proud of yourself, Romney, for seeking such principled "standards." After all, you better celebrate your marriage ideas now, as the vast majority of future generations are guaranteed to look back on your legacy on this particular "issue" with nothing but disdain!
