Study: We blame those damn abs and their non-fleeting popularity

by Jeremy Hooper

A new study suggests that gay and bisexual men may be at at a greater risk for eating disorders than their heterosexual peers.

This is of course because the lies and misrepresentations that our opposition routinely tries to shove down our throat, have a tendency to make us want to vomit.

Your thoughts

This is entirely a "no duh" situation. The gay male community is one of the most image-obssessed, superficially facist groups in all the world. Speaking as a gay, male, recovering anorexic, I can say that the pressure to conform to the ridiculously impossible standards of gay male beauty has caused me nothing but strife.

I'm sorry to hear that, Johnny, but I think you're a little too harsh on the gays. People who are allowed to live truthful, respected lives generally have an easier time of it. The reason that gays have a higher rate of smoking, alcoholism, eating disorders, and other disease is not because of some inherent community character flaw, but because homophobia from straights brings forth an unhealthy pressure - and we deal with it by self-destructive behaviors. Remove the inequality, the intimidation, and the hate and you'll see we'll be screwed up at just about the same rate as the heteros.
