Is he or isn't he? 'New York' mag's on the case
A few months back, we ran a small blip on a Dr. Richard Lippa, who has been studying the traits that he feels are unique to gay people (such as left-handedness and certain hair whorls). Well, New York magazine is this week running an interesting feature piece on Lippa, genetics, and the "science of gaydar." Check it out:
The Science of Gaydar [NY Magazine]
And also be sure to look for our upcoming features on "The English of Gaydar," wherein we'll analyze such phrases as, "Well, he's well dressed and has perfectly shaped eyebrows, yet he prefers the Mets to the Met and thinks the theme to Mr. Belvedere is a showtune"; "The Math of Gaydar," wherein we'll prove that the "1" and "1" that make up a couple need not have nether regions that are dissimilar; and "The P.E. of Gaydar," wherein we'll just talk about dodge ball a lot, simply because it's a really fun game that we should all play more of as adults. Should be eye-opening exposes, those!
Oh, and as for NY magazine's effect on this writer's own finely tuned gaydar? Well, I can't be completely sure, but I think I saw their Theater section looking at my ass. Also, every time I open the damn thing, one of those annoyingly presumptuous subscription cards tries to go down on me...
