Who's less likely to piss us off in '08?

by Jeremy Hooper

Picture 5-63The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force has released a report detailing the positions of every major presidential candidate regarding LGBT issues. You can download it for yourself at the following link:

Report details Democrats’ support of and Republicans’ opposition to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights [Taskforce]

But if you don't feel like reading it, then let us summarize what you need to know:

*At the very pro-gay end of the spectrum: Dennis Kucinich

*In the pro-gay shitter: Mitt Romney

*Reasonably gay supportive: All of the rest of the Dems

*(Un)reasonably gay antipathetic: All of the rest of the Republicans

*Still waiting for the day when our lives, loves, and basic human rights will no longer be up for public debate, so that we can weight candidate fitness based on their positions on ACTUAL socio-political issues: The whole of the gay community

Your thoughts

Mitt Romney worse than Sam Brownback and Mike Huckabee? I can't sign off on that.

Also, too bad that the report uses the word "supports" rather than "has done a damn thing about" in the context of the four sitting Democratic senators.

For example, to credit Hillary Clinton for "supporting" ending DADT when she can't be bothered to actually sponsor a bill on the subject (and remember, she's on the Armed Services Committee) speaks more to gay activist myopia than to Democratic politician enlightenment.

Good points, Kip.

As for Romney -- he was the only one to officially oppose all 8 of the gay rights measures. However, there were several whose positions were unclear or unknown, and who therefore could also be unanimously opposed.
