Doctor who wishes to shock us succeeds in doing exactly that

by Jeremy Hooper

Over the years, there have been many important, medically sound books written on the subject of homosexuality and how gay people should be accepted and treated in modern society. "Dr. Bob's Grocery Store Medicine and Healthy Life Anecdotes" is not one of those landmark tomes.

But why do we say this? Well, here is how the Charlotte Observer describes the portions of that particular medical book in which its author, Dr. Bob Crummie, discusses the topic of gays and lesbians:

Perhaps his most controversial opinions relate to gays and lesbians.

"There is no such thing as a homosexual. The Gay Movement is a hoax," Crummie writes. "Individuals who act out homosexually are at best very neurotic and at worst psychotic. Most of them are character disorders."

In what he describes as "one of my funniest stories," Crummie tells how he once put a stop to homosexuality at an N.C. prison when, as superintendent, he threatened to give electric shock therapy to anyone caught in the act. With several inmates present, he demonstrated the procedure on one inmate who was severely depressed, he writes.

Pretty wacky stuff, right? But why is the Charlotte Observer even discussing this obviously nutty book, you ask? Well, because this same Dr. Crummie recently served as the "Doctor of the Day" of the North Carolina General Assembly, which is an esteeemed volunteer position wherein medical professionals care for, treat, and advise anyone in the Legislative Building who might need assistance. And not only did he serve in this position (which is arranged for by the N.C. Medical Society), but Dr. Crummie also reportedly seized the opportunity to pass out free copies of the aforementioned book (which also reportedly advocates greater use of lobotomies, among other strange positions) to those who sought his services.

Crummy indeed.

It's unclear exactly how many lawmakers, aides, and local political types received the book during Crummie's day of service. However, if we hear of an NC legislator proposing the "F**k Banning Them From Marriage, Let's Just Fry Their Neurotic Asses" Amendment in the upcoming legislative session, we will know exactly who to blame!

Care to elaborate, "Not You"? You can't really drop by a two year old post, intimate that a press report is unresearched, and give no reasons as to why you're making such a claim.
