Roasting both marshmallows and homophobia
Keeping with the trend of giving worthwhile documentaries a broadcast home, the kids at Logo will this Saturday (9PM ET/PT) show the world premiere of Camp Out, a doc following ten Midwestern teens who come together to attend a Bible camp for gay Christian youth:
Camp Out [Logo]
It's sort of like that documentary Jesus Camp, except that this particular rustic institution isn't working from a standpoint that paints the world as a moral cesspool in which we humans merely fight to stay afloat. And it's not from the place that cites the gays as a big reason why said cesspool is so deep. Oh, and it's not operating from the a place where religion is a weapon that divides us. Ooh, and also not from the position that sees science, evolution, or sex as scary.
So actually, on second thought, it has little in common with Jesus Camp, except in that both give glimpses into worlds where fireside sing-a-longs and God collide. Oh, and both encampments likely featured mosquitos (except in the Jesus Camp camp, it's likely the gays were blamed for those too).
So anyways, kids -- come to Camp Out this Saturday on Logo. Just remember to get Off! first.
