Update on Stephen Dunne: Bar Exam Flunker

by Jeremy Hooper

6780MefSo remember Stephen Dunne, the man who is trying to sue various Massachusetts bodies because of a gay marriage-centric question that he claims led him to fail his bar exam? Well, this comment was just left on our original post on the subject:

I hate to admit it but I'm related to this ( Stephen Dunne )con-artist/thief. He failed the Pa. Bar exam 4 times and got into serious legal trouble in the Philly area and thought it was time to leave town, back to Boston where he went to school. As a close relative of this scumbag/politician type/ lawyer want to be, I would never ever do any business with this guy because he'd rob you blind and your mother too!!

We really have no witty comment to make or thoughts to add, and we obviously have no way of verifying that what this particular commentator says is true. However, we found it newsworthy and thought you might as well.

**UPDATE, 7/12: Okay, so the commenter from above has emailed us more information. It's pretty nutty.

Before showing it to you, we do want to stress again that this is COMPLETELY UNCONFIRMED and should not be taken as fact. These are one-sided allegations that, in light of the attention being given to Mr. Dunne's lawsuit, do possess a valid amount of newsworthiness. We have made strides to get a response from Mr. Dunne, so we hope he we will get back to us and help flesh out these allegations' authenticity. In the meantime, however, this is what was sent to us:

I'm a [very close relative] of his. We more or less grew up together but he's getting weirder & weirder. He was always very smart but strange. Very much the politician type. If you asked him what color the green grass was, he'd tell you all kinds of bullshit and never actually answer the question. Always looking for some kind of crazy deal then he never follows through & drops it to do something else half ass.
...
The trouble that he got into in the Philly area was, he found a way to get the bank account #'s & pin #'s to his dads retirement account in a bank in Ireland. He then pretended to be his dad, called the company & told them to close the account and send the checks/money to him, he then forged the checkes with his fathers name, stealing $80,000.00 pounds which he spent for school bills/loans & a failed business. His mother was his accomplice and now they are getting divorced over this and an attempted murder charge as well. That's another reason why Stephen Dunne is no longer in Pa. because his dad will put him in jail possibly. It's still in court.

Your thoughts

Hi

My site http://www.keepingupwithjonas.com also got the same comment from Brutus. http://www.keepingupwithjonas.com/keeping_up_with_jonas/2007/07/stephen-dunne-i.html

I also can't verify the authenticity of the source or the allegations. This story may be getting stranger and more bizarre.

Is the picture on your post a shot of Mr. Dunne?

Thanks,

Jonas

Hi -

I received the same e-mail follow-up e-mail from "Brutus." While I also haven't been able to confirm the allegations, there maybe one small piece of information in the e-mail that could possibly be verified - Dunne's hometown. http://www.keepingupwithjonas.com/keeping_up_with_jonas/2007/07/new-details-on-.html

The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled in a 4-3 decision, without the people’s consent, that same-sex marriage is legal.

Give it up, Stephen

he United States Constitution forbids individual states from preventing qualified attorneys from practicing law based on the lawyer’s political leanings. Massachusetts violated the Constitution by including a question on homosexual marriage on the Massachusetts bar examination.
No state can refuse the granting of a law license based upon one’s particular viewpoint.

Stephen, the agreement that you have no case is almost unanimous. Seriously, this is just silly.

There is no way his Dad's retirement account had 80,000 pounds in it. Also, it would be 80,000 Euro, not 80,000 Pounds. That alone proves that the poster full of crap.

Not to further this or to lend any credence to the claims -- but how do you figure, anon? Stephen, according to his own account, came here from Ireland, where the pound is the currency.

We've been using the Euro here in Ireland since 1999 electronically, and as cash since 2002. The Irish pound (the punt) is now dead.
