Wherein a nickname for a political tactic allows us to reminisce
The Family Research Council has reportedly been "robo-calling" homes in Nashville, TN, encouraging locals to call Senator Lamar Alexander's office and tell him "to vote no on any hate crimes bill that grants special protections to people because of their sexual preferences." Story and link to the audio of the recording can be found here:
Family Research Council targets Lamar over hate-crimes bill [Nashville Post]
Though this is not to be confused with our own strategy...
"Robo-copping"
...wherein we will dress up a staffer as the title character from the 1987 film classic and command him to go door to door in order to show Nashvillians how the ideas that gay is a "preference" or that hate crimes protections are "special rights" are both even more ridiculous than the notion that a half man-half machine could even live for one second, much less fight crime in an effective manner. And then we'll have him remind the good citizens that what could fight crime in an effective manner, thus allowing bias-targeted gays to live for more than one second are FEDERAL HATE CRIMES PROTECTIONS! We have a good feeling the vast majority will be like, "WHOA! DUDE! YOU'RE ROBOCOP! Who cares what that the FRC said in that impersonal, slightly spineless, recording that I just answered. Man, I've seen you beat up the bad guys and then further insult them with a witty quip. So whatever you say, 80's crime-enforcing machine!"
So go ahead, FRC -- make your silly, deceitful "robo-calls." Unless you conservatives can convince Arnold to suit up as the Terminator, you stand no chance.*
(*And even then don't be so sure, as we also have a Crocodile Dundee suit somewhere in storage!)
