Video: False witness witnessing falsely
So there were lots of things that made us take pause in last night's fantastic Christiane Amanpour Report, "God's Christian Warriors." However, this little clip featuring Rick Scarborough just made us plain angry:
And in fact, our annoyance is partly with Amanpour's assessment. Because it's not that critics merely think Scarborough's words are "scare-mongering" or merely indicative of one who wants to impose his moral values on culture. Critics know for a FACT that his words are JUST PLAIN WRONG! Talking about proposed hate crimes legislation in terms of "hate speech" is like talking about a proposed pull-out of Iraq in terms of how it will stifle Westboro Baptist's practice of preaching at slain soldier's funerals. That's because absolutely nothing in the presented measures speak of speech in any way, shape, or "fire in a crowded theatre!" And as we've discussed time and time again, no preacher will be even questioned for their preaching unless their preaching is along the lines of, "Right after we sing this hymn, you need to go beat the hell out of your gay neighbor!"
But hey, why concern yourself with the Bible's many teachings on telling the truth when there are a handful of hazy, multi-translated, open-for-interpretation, non-Jesus-commanded gay condemnations at hand?

GREAT catch, Jeremy! This idiot's message made me cringe last night. What a demagogue. Christiane Amanpour did an amazing job with this series. The underlying theme was great: ANY extremism is bad, no matter what faith they claim to profess.
While no one should be punished for thought crimes, a church that actively engages in politics should not qualify for tax-exempt status. To me, that's a more fitting punishment than jail time.
