What has H.R.C even done for gays?

by Jeremy Hooper

Picture 4-72So it's no secret that Hillary Clinton has loads of gay support. But what has this particular H.R.C really done to better gay lives during her time in the spotlight? Well, Newsweek takes a look at that subject in this new article:

Show 'Em Whatcha Got [Newsweek]

The general consensus: Hill, like most of the other Dems vying for 1600 Pennsylvania, is completely comfortable around gay people. However, she's less comfortable with taking a bold, unapologetic, full equality-seeking stand when on the public political stage (where it matters most). While annoying, this stance is still better than the typical GOP strategy: Be somewhat complacent, even borderline accepting of gays in private and personal matters, yet downright hostile towards the LGBT population while in the political arena. So we gays oftentimes rally behind the one who seems like they will hurt us least, not the one we truly think is going to make our lives (and society) better.

However, of all of the elections in recent history, this truly seems to be one where we can stand up and demand more of our progressive candidates. After all, gay people have been subjected to some of the cruelest, most discriminatory attacks in political history over the past handful of years, with our lives and loves even painted as a threat to national security and well-being. We have been attacked by our government, with our constitutions turned into weapons of mass distraction and destruction. Those who oppose virtually every other one of the flawed Bush administration's tragic failures owe it to LGBT people to give us a chance to speak for ourselves. And not only Clinton, Obama, and company owe us this, but the slate of GOP hopefuls do as well. For we are not an abstract political concept; we are humans. We are voters. We are Americans. And we are abso-f***ing-lutely fed up with both the the cruel attacks from our foes, and the boat-missing, do-nothing lip service that often comes from our potential allies!!

Hill, you certainly are paying attention to the LGBT community, and you have certainly piqued our interest. Now we just want to see you take that next step: The one that shows the American public why our acceptance is so important, and not the one that moves at an almost imperceptible rate in order to avoid rocking the boat.

Your thoughts

During the debate, Ms. Clinton didn't even seem that comfortable around queers. Her disdain was really insulting.
