From 'smear the queer' to 'burning gays' -- homophobic teens are so advanced these days!
Think there is no problem of gay bullying in modern day American schools? Well, consider the following two comments, which have been left on an old post regarding California high school students who protested the pro-gay Day of Silence event:
Charming, no?
Now, judging by the IP addresses, both of these commentators are from the same California area, leading us to believe that both likely attend the high school in question. Or, judging by the same horrendous writing style that permeates both comments, it's possible that this is the same person from diff. computers. But either way, there are either one or two young minds who are definitely in need of help with their inner rage, and possibly in need of help with the repressed sexual desires that are leading them to that rage. So rather than lash out or match their barbs with an equally eloquent "I know you are but what am I," this writer will simply hold out hope that this duo (and their parents) will pinpoint and fix the problem that's going on in their minds before their anonymous ,typewritten courage manifests itself in the physical world. And I'll pray that the "pro-family" opposition that so frequently denies the problem of gay bullying will eventually pull their heads out of their arses, so that they can finally see that the gay community's only agenda in terms of public school is one that seeks gay kids who graduate in a non-charred fashion!
Your thoughts
For the last twenty years or so California has had the dubious distinction of being the favorite destination for rightwing emigrants from the former USSR. Tens of thousands of them are concentrated in the Sacramento area.
One thing you should understand about these immigrants; their religious and political extremism is qualitatively more hazardous for us than US rightists. Their great grandfathers, before the 1917 Red revolution, burned Jews, men, women and children, for sport. Their grandfathers welcomed the Nazi invasion of the USSR with open arms and volunteered in large numbers for SS extermination squads and as camp guards.
Now they're here. Every Sunday Slavic preachers pour out a vitriolic blend of antigay bigotry and incitements to violence. These Slav christian groups have been physically restrained on high school campuses in Sacramento and Roseville by gay and straight American students for physically assaulting gay or ‘suspect’ students. The Slavic christian thugs have already killed once and will do so again.
As the 2008 campaign heats up, it'll begin to get more dangerous. The Republicans will scapegoat us like they did in 2000 and 2004 and the Democrats will hustle around saying that we don’t deserve the right to marry, which is the same as telling everyone that we’re inferior. Those are like green lights for Slavic thugs and they'll come after us. There will be victims.

Antigay prejudice can be value-expressive only when an individual's self-concept is closely tied to values that also have become socially defined as antithetical to homosexuality. It can be social expressive only insofar as an individual strongly needs to be accepted by members of a social group that rejects gay people or homosexuality.

I have chatted on-line with a person from this area and he speaks with fear of people finding out he is gay. He speaks of the "fag drag" and fear that if he is found out, he will be the next to be drug through town.

The problem in this area really needs to get more attention. I was aware of the Slavic Christians in this area and their penchant for vocal protests. However, I had no clue it was at this frightening level.
