Taking liberties to say 'gays hate liberty'
This might shock you, but we at G-A-Y dislike many of our conservative opposition's tactics. Among our least favorite of all of their duplicitous actions: The way they will take two completely unrelated events and try to connect them in order to make their own gay-demonizing arguments.
Latest case in point: The American Family Association's faux news mouthpiece, One News Now, has cobbled together a new piece regarding the much bally-hooed Folsom Street Fair. Much of the piece consists of the same condemnatory quotes we have already seen from the Concerned Women of America's Matt Barber and American For Truth's Peter LaBarbera, as they work to paint the annual festival as (a) exclusively gay, (b) representative of the majority of the gay community, and (c) anti-Christian. So most of it is nothing new. However, the One News Now writers (a whopping 3 of them are credited with writing this story) use a false setup for their piece that really rubs us the wrong way. Here, read it for yourself:
The Silent Drill Platoon of the U.S. Marine Corps has been touring the country shooting a commercial called "America's Marines," with stops in October planned for Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado, and Arizona. Recently, the unit was filmed marching in the heart of Times Square in New York City during the morning rush hour. But when a request was made to film a segment along California Street in San Francisco, the city's Film Commission told the Marines no, saying "traffic control was the issue."
According to KGO in San Francisco, Film Commission executive director Stefanie Coyote would only allow the Marine's production crew to film on California Street if there were no Marines in the picture. The crew ended up filming the empty street and will have to superimpose the Marines later.
The city's denial of the Marines' Silent Drill Platoon has angered local conservatives and military veterans, as well as several pro-family leaders, among them Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality. LaBarbera says traffic control does not appear to be a problem for an event known as the "Folsom Street Fair," taking place in the City by the Bay this weekend.
"They can't make room for the Marines to film in the city -- and yet they can manage to clear off several city blocks for a street fair that celebrates the most heinous perversions known to man," says an exasperated LaBarbera. "It's incredible the priorities of politically correct San Francisco."
...
"They can't stand any group that doesn't have their politically correct view of homosexuality," he states; "and yet here we see the Folsom Street Fair and other grotesque happenings in the city of San Francisco ... are all allowed to thrive in San Francisco -- and yet the Marines, the symbol of all that is good in America, are kept at bay. [Y]ou could only picture this happening in San Francisco."
So basically the ONN writers, in their usually myopic fashion, are trying to send the message that San Francisco hates America's soldiers, yet loves what is, in their estimation, debauchery. But here's the thing: They have no real reason to believe that the city of San Francisco is being anything less than straightforward in their explanation as to why the certain shoot was not allowed! Nathan Ballard in Mayor Newsom's office tells Fox News:
"The Marines were not denied a permit to film in San Francisco," ..."we really appreciate their business and they're invited back anytime."
And the Marines certainly did get some San Francisco-based footage, as you can see by viewing the video that is front and center on the front page of their website. So basically what we have is one specific planned scene being denied out of city concerns (as they are all the time in various U.S. cities), yet because it involved the Marines, folks like One News Now are brazenly assuming that it's simply an example of San Fran's liberal, anti-war politics. And then we have them taking the intellectual leap of contrasting that one decision with another, wholly unrelated street fair, so that they can, by extension, also make the whole of the gay community look like anti-military radicals. It's enraging.
This is the team who claims to be so "moral" and "truthful," yet they will jump to make suppositions like the one above whenever they think doing so will more easily connect the dots of their deceptive arguments for their readership. And they will jump over chasms of rationality to connect the gay community to anything that they can skew as insidious, or contrary to America or Christianity. If it weren't so offensive to the nature of intellect, cognition, a united America, decency, humanity, or peace, their guile might be sort of funny.

Your thoughts
This story is really upsetting me - and I do not like it.
"fakenewsnow" is one of the most evil websites. I try my hardest to tolerate the Christian Right as much as possible. But this is ridiculous!
Not only did they combine two stories that have nothing to do with one another. The Folsom St. Fair keeps being portrayed as a Homosexual only event.
None of them and it's not that big surprise seems to want to acknowledge the irony of the fact that the artist of the original Last Supper was a homosexual and a pederast.
I agree it’s enraging!!!
