Wherein the religous right begins researching Iranian real estate
The following is from the NY Times' City Room blog, recounting a portion of today's speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad:
In response to a question about the treatment of homosexuals in Iran, Mr. Ahmadinejad was initially evasive, instead talking about the death penalty, which, he pointed out, exists in the United States: “People who violate the laws by using guns, creating insecurity selling guns, distributing guns at a high level are sentenced to execution in Iran. Very few of these punishments are carried out in the public eye.”
Pressed by Dean Coatsworth on the original question about the rights of gay men and lesbians in Iran, Mr. Ahmadinejad said: “In Iran, we don’t have homosexuals like in your country. We don’t have that in our country.”
The audience booed and hissed loudly. Some laughed, uncomfortably.
“In Iran, we do not have this phenomenon,” Mr. Ahmadinejad continued, undeterred. “I do not know who has told you that we have it.
Sound nuts, right? Well, we thought so too, until we heard that the horribly arachnophobic Ahmadinejad then saw a spider run across the stage, which prompted this followup:
"AHHH, A SPIDER! QUICK, SOMEONE 'DO NOT HAVE IT' THAT THING RIGHT NOW!!!! HURRY, before I have a heart attack which 'do not have it's me dead! I would get rid of it myself if I had the courage, but alas I 'kill.'"
Now what was I talking about? Oh yea, homosexuals. No, we 'do not have it' those kinds of people. In fact, we 'do not have it'ed a few just recently, see:
Yea, we sure did 'do not have it' those two phenomena, now didn't we?
Okay, well, that's about all the time I have for now. I'm now gonna go back to the hotel and watch my favorite Quentin Tarantino movie, 'Don't Have It' Bill: Volume 1. Unfortunately, however, I'm gonna first have to go purchase the DVD, because I 'kill.'"

Your thoughts
Awww, that's cute. His denial knows no boundaries. I should introduce him to some of my exes. I bet they'd hit it off splendidly.

Ok, maybe I am a little off base here but when I was watching the speech he seemed to answer the question by comparing gays to drug pushers and virus spreaders. In fact while I was watching it (granted at the gym so I could not scream) it was as if I was watching a right wing talking head here in the United States spew about "protecting children from the homosexual agenda" just as society protects children from drugs etc.
In fact it was as if he read straight from their (the fundamentalist Christians) playbook.

Holy +shit+.
This is sick to the point where it's not even funny to try and joke about. Someone go throw him a bag full of The Hard Truth, please.

Agreed that it's horrible, Alle. But I would disagree in terms of joking about it. Crying about it would be exactly what he wants.

Ahmadinejad, as titular head of state presides over the legal lynchings of men and boys whose sole ‘crime’ is loving one another. The same fate awaits women who demand to be treated as humans and trade unionist who want decent wages and working conditions. His repressive regime toadies to the ignorant, superstitious ayatollahs.
That however should not lead us to get behind the Bush /Israeli plan to provoke Iran as an excuse to launch US missiles against Iran’s nuclear power facilities. Ahmadinejad is a criminal who deserves punishment. But his punishment should come from Iranians, not via another Bushite war of regime change . At some point the long suffering Iranian people are going to complete the revolution begun by topping the US controlled Shah and then arrest Ahmadinejad and his government and the ayatollahs, give them a fair trial, and blow their brains out.
Ahmadinejad, whatever his crimes to date, pales in comparison to Bush, Cheney, Goring, Hitler, Rice, Von Ribbentrop, Rumsfeld, Jodl, Gates and Keitel. Those criminals used a campaign of propaganda and lies to launch criminal wars of economic aggression that resulted in brutal crimes against humanity. Ahmadinejad is just a bush league second stringer by comparison.
