'Republicans suck': Becoming less of a political grouse, more of a factual sexual statement
Richard Curtis, a GOP state rep in Washington, voted this year against domestic partnerships for gay couples. He also opposed a bill that bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. So knowing what we know about this generation's crop of Republican lawmakers, this should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone:
Documents: Southwest Wash. GOP lawmaker had sex with man [Seattle PI]
State lawmaker blackmailed following late night adult bookstore rendezvous [KXLY]
Yes, after days of denials, it has been revealed in newly released police documents that despite his past anti-gay voting record, Rep. Curtis is (or was on at least one occasion) himself into the dude lovin'. Seriously. Another one. A Republican. We're not kidding.
Ironically, the news comes on the exact same day that the Republican National Committee revealed the blueprints for their next HQ:
Looks good!
**ED. NOTE: In no way should the above be interpreted as an endorsement of any of the alleged extortion that has taken place against Mr. Curtis. It should be taken merely as a commentary on the nonstop hypocrisy coming out of the GOP ranks, and not on this police investigation itself. We will likely have more to say on the investigation itself in the coming days.
**UPDATE: Here's one tidbit about the investigation: Curtis' alleged tryst and extortionist, Cody Castagna, has done some porn as well. We're of course to prudish to show you the link. However, our more exhibitionistic pal Dan Savage has the link for all interested parties.
**UPDATE 2: Oh, and check out this ad from 1998:
There's no way of verifying that this, the dude who misspells "stallion" and uses phrases like "yummy yummy I'll put cum in your tummy," is the SAME Cody Castagna. However, the age does match up perfectly.
None of this is looking very good for Curtis (or Castagna, for that matter). It's actually very, very sad.

Your thoughts
I feel sorry for his family, but one can't help but be a bit gleeful when people like Richard Curtis, Larry Craig & Ted Haggard get caught do stupid stuff like this.

Well yea, first and foremost, all of these situations are SAD, SAD, SAD for everyone involved.

It's the same Cody. I knew him from 1997-2001. I stopped talking to him when he got busted for forgery in 2001.

He seems like a real class act, monkey.

Although The Stranger's blog, SLOG, where Savage posts, calls itself "Seattle's Only Blog", it really isn't. Another blog in town sussed out the link you give to Cody's porn pics a couple of hours before Savage did.
It's new. So it's not likely to have come up on your radar, but still... those are the kind of minor "scoop" issues that Savage is wont to harp on, so I thought I'd mention it.

RobinEV: It should be noted that we actually gave the link to Dan. It was based on on our own Google image search, no other tip off. But if you have a link to the other blog, then please send it along. We always like to get as many voices out there as possible.

Richard Curtis is one the of state lawmakers who represents my county in Olympia. I am very disapointed with him. I dont know how many times Ive talked with him, how much good things Ive told people about him, I even have Richard Curtis things in my political scrapbook.
Shame on you Curtis for doing this to your family. You are sick.

hey jeremey, don't posts like this one violate #5 of your FAQ?
Posted by: andy | Oct 31, 2007 4:23:10 PM
andy: not at all. we will not post gossip based on rumor or conjecture. And we truly have no desire to speculate about a public figure. However, when stuff like this is revealed in a police report and enters the national conversation, we have no choice but to acknowledge it. And we have a duty to point out the hypocrisy of his voting record. It's not gossip -- it's covering the actual facts that have come to light
