Breaking: 'Floridians' consist solely of primary-voting Republicans

by Jeremy Hooper

ItzasintolieDo you think the "journalists" who write for Focus on the Family's CitizenLink forgotten how to accurately represent a situation, or are they simply too agenda-drive to care? Because they clearly have lost either their abilities of their ethics, as the degree to which they will try and pass off fallacy as fact seems to have reached new heights in recent months.

Read this piece that was posted yesterday and then we'll get back to you:

Poll: Floridians Support Traditional Marriage

Tonight, the Republican presidential candidates will gather in Florida to answer questions submitted through YouTube, a popular video-sharing Web site. Likely GOP voters in Florida made their opinions known in a CNN poll released Tuesday.

Nearly 80 percent of them support traditional marriage, between one man and one woman. And 63 percent said abortion should be illegal or legal in just a few circumstances.

"This poll reflects what we've seen in polls and ballot boxes across the country — the majority of people believe marriage is for one man and one woman only," said Jenny Tyree, associate marriage analyst for Focus on the Family Action. "The presidential candidate who will defend marriage could win some votes in this important state."

Okay, so just start by looking at the headline: "Poll: Floridians Support Traditional Marriage." Now, that might be an acceptable way to highlight this story if, oh, i don't know -- IT WAS IN REGARDS TO A SURVEY OF ALL FLORIDA CITIZENS! However, it is not. The story involves a CNN/Opinion Research poll of only likely GOP primary voters. That doesn't mean Democrats. That doesn't mean Independents. It means registered Republicans who are interested enough in politics to have an opinion about the primary. And they have to know this! But they also know that is sounds MUCH better to make it sound like Florida proper is hellbent on banning 'mo nuptials.

Then moving on to Jenny Tyree's quote: She's painting it as if this poll is not only representative of Florida attitudes, but of THE NATION'S perspective. Plus, she's making it sound as if a federal gay marriage ban is a gravy train for ANY presidential candidate, not just socially conservative ones. And in the name of "winning votes," she is encouraging that these candidates propose a piece of legislation that has been shot down on the national level on many occasions (conveniently overlooking that national polls are consistently showing increasing opposition to a federal amendment).

We always knew they didn't really include gays, liberals, progressives, or their allies in their world views. But good lord, this is just ridiculous!

Your thoughts

"Traditional" marriage? Then I take it they're in support of the following:
-Arranged marriages
-Putting "obey" back into the bride's wedding vows
-Dowries
-And the wife becoming the legal property of the husband.
Sheesh.
