Video: I'm loud, therefore I'm right -- right?

by Jeremy Hooper

Minster G. Craige Lewis of EX Ministries certainly has a grasp on how to raise one's voice to heightened decibel levels in order to sound more authoritative. However, an understanding of the human condition and of the truth surrounding same-sex-oriented people seems to be his Achilles heel:

Hmm...homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder because "homosexuals became doctors and changed it"? And here we thought it was because doctors -- straight and gay -- realized the errancy of their ways, just as doctors throughout history have corrected other misclassifications and missteps. And GRID was changed to AIDS because gays wanted to hide that the disease "was punishment for the sin"? Gee, and here we thought it was because even though the gay community was hit first and hardest in this country -- for reasons unknown and even suspicious -- it was not a gay-only disease, and therefore needed a more appropriate name.

But what do we know? After all, we only analyze these sorts of things by researching all sides and reading all materials surrounding the issue. So how could our work ever hold up to the scrutiny of using our own interpretations of select Bible passages to explain the complex inner-workings of the human mind and body?

Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh!

Your thoughts

Actually that's not entirely accurate, Jeremy. Politics was a factor in this, along with gay psychiatrists, before enough evidence had been found to remove it. Lewis' statements are historically simplistic, but they have some truth, though completely ignore the fact that the 1973 decision has been sustained by later research.

Well, John, I wasn't referring specifically to the 1973 situation. There are conflicting stories about all of that, but yes -- righteous, fact-based politicking could have been a factor. However, the idea that homosexuality is no longer a "mental disorder" simply because of that pesky gay agenda is just absurd. The "agenda" is not and never was powerful enough to dupe 90% of the scientific community.

What's that old joke about finding the comment in the margin of the minister's sermon notes? "Argument weak here, shout loudly" or something?
