What next, will we find out Anita Bryant was actually Mike in drag?
Now gays, we know at this point finding more reasons to not vote for Mike Huckabee is about as gratuitous as a male hooker trying to find more reasons to hate impotence. However, these recently dug up comments wherein Huckster links homosexuality with things like necrophilia and pedophilia do bring about a whole host of new reasons to fear that we queers would be relegated to even lesser places of prominence under a potential President Huckabee. This from Mother Jones:
In [the 1998 book] Kids Who Kill, Huckabee argued that school shootings were the product of a society in decline, a decline marked (and caused) by abortion, pornography, media violence, out-of-wedlock sex, divorce, drug use, and, of course, homosexuality. Huckabee and his coauthor bemoaned the "demoralization of America," observing, "Despite all our prosperity, pomp, and power, the vaunted American experiment in liberty seems to be disintegrating before our very eyes." Huckabee, who was governor at the time and a well-known social conservative, blasted away at those whom he held responsible for America's ills, and he took a rather tough stand against government social programs and their advocates. In lamenting the "cultural conflicts" besetting the country, he wrote,
Abortion, environmentalism, AIDS, pornography, drug abuse, and homosexual activism have fragmented and polarized our communities.
Why was he lumping environmentalism with activities he considered sinful? He did not explain further. A few pages later, Huckabee complained,
It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations—from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia.
Huckabee did not say what public endorsement of pedophilia or necrophilia he had in mind. But he did seem to be equating homosexuality with both.
Wow. But hey, that was WAY BACK in the late 1990's. Back then, the technology used to discern between one following their biological truth and one choosing to f***a corpse just wasn't what it is today!
Mike Huckabee: Playing Both Sides of the Pulpit [Mother Jones]
**UPDATE: Talking Points Memo has some "clarifications" that have been offered up by Joe Carter, Huckabee's director of research. Here's a snippet:
When we asked Carter if Huckabee stood by this quote, he didn't disavow the comment. But he sought to clarify its meaning, denying our suggestion that the quote equated homosexuality and necrophilia.
"He's not equating homosexuality with necrophilia," Carter told us. "He's saying there's a range of aberrant behavior. He considers homosexuality aberrant, but that's at one end of the spectrum. Necrophilia is at the other end."
Carter added: "No way is he saying that homosexuality is like having sex with dead people. That's not it at all."
Asked how one measured what rated where on this spectrum of aberrant behavior, Carter said: "He was talking about aberrant sexual behavior. Sado masochism and necrophilia are on the further end of the spectrum."
Asked if this meant that Huckabee at least saw homosexuality and necrophilia as belonging to the same behavioral category, Carter said:
"That's like saying any sex is the same. Yes, he considers both aberrant, but no, he does not equate the two in any way."
Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Read more about the subtle nuances of "aberrance" over at TPM:
Your thoughts
In all fairness the type of Christianity Mike Huckabee follows clearly believes that homosexuality and necrophilia is the same thing.
Mike Huckabee is running as a social conservative and as much as some of his beliefs are sickening to us they are his deeply held beliefs and scary as it is millions of Americans believe the same as he does.

Alonzo: Few would deny that this sort of view has been embraced to a degree within certain circles. It's just to say that it's a really disturbing way of viewing the world. A view that I'd hope would be rejected by the vast majority.

I agree most people do not share the belief homosexuality and necrophilia are the same thing.
But the majority of Americans that gave us Bush for a 2nd time are the same ones lining up to help get Huckabee into the White House.
Among Evangelicals Huckabee score even more points with them after he refused to retract his statements regarding AIDS patients.

Curious thing about Huckabee: Why isn't he ever referred to as Rev. Mike Huckabee? Any ideas?

To even admit that this non-thinker has a remote chance of being elected president is frightening. Have you read the list of stuff that he's done? - the gift registry to furnish his house, the pressure on the state police to leave his son alone, the pardons to murderers (especially the one who killed again right after his pardon)....and how did he end up with a house worth over a half million dollars on his sixty-some thousand dollar governor's salary? What about all the tapes from both his governorship and as a Baptist minister that he had destroyed? This guy is a thug.
I know, I'm preaching to the choir, but venting feel so good.

Dave: Yes, it's quite unbelievable that he could actually be LEADING in the Iowa polls! But in a way, his nomination could be a good thing. It's quite possible that we've yet to see the worst of what could be dug up during the general election, the likes of which would give Hell-dwelling snowballs a better chance at success.
But then again, seeing as how the poss. of him winning the big enchilada keeps me awake at night, I hesitate to hope that he becomes the GOP nominee (even if I think it could actually helps the Dems).
