'Ex-gay' wonders why he can't make nut

by Jeremy Hooper

Picture 6-108Do you think the exciting field of professional "ex-gay" advocacy is a lucrative one?  Thinking about getting into this get rich quick scheme for yourself?  Well you might want to think again, enterprising sillies.  For in a newly issued charity letter, professional 'ex-gay" Stephen Bennett has revealed that he is broke-ity broke, and in dire need of financial help (a whopping $15,000 a month!) to keep his "gays can change" operation afloat.  Here is a sample:

Maybe you have supported this ministry in the past with a generous one time gift, or even on an "on-and-off" basis. I am simply asking that you commit to sacrificing the cost of ONE PIZZA a month -- ONE PIZZA -- to support the work and ministry of SBM.

I don't need to tell you this, but homosexuality is destroying this nation. Our children -- your children -- are getting trapped and deceived into a lifestyle that is NOW being promoted, celebrated and being marketed as "natural and normal." Nothing could be further from God's truth.

We have been here for you and for others now for the last eight years. MANY people have come to Christ -- those struggling with homosexuality, and even those who have not. Lives have been changed! Souls have been set free and the Kingdom of God has multiplied through the work of SBM. It is now time to say, "Yes, I will gladly partner with SBM monthly because I want to be part of the solution!"

What is our other option if we don't meet our monthly budget?

Last year was one of the ministry's most difficult years of all. Many of you who work go to work full-time or part-time and know you are coming home with a paycheck either every week or month. That's not the case here at SBM. In fact, last year, I had to personally take out a home equity loan to cover my salary for several months... or the mortgage wouldn't be paid, nor our children's tuition. I did that because I believe in this ministry more than anything. However, I will never do that again. I shouldn't have to.

This ministry is THE PEOPLE'S MINISTRY. WE ARE ALL A TEAM. WE ALL MUST DO OUR PART -- or we will FALL apart. I do NOT want that to happen.

Yes, but Stephen -- that "ONE PIZZA" that supporters would need to sacrifice? Whereas it's concocted out of actual ingredients and cooked with real machines, your "ministry" is built out of junk science and fostered by socio-polico-religo machination.  And while there may be a caloric cost to consider with the sauce and cheese-based flatbread, there is AN ACTUAL HUMAN LIFE COST with your saucy and cheesy (yet flat) "ex-gay" work!  So you're not just asking people to sacrifice 15 bucks a month to support a cause.  Stephen, you are instead asking folks to fork over 15 bucks a month to support a dangerous, medically unsupported, scientifically unbacked, one-sided contrivance.  It is a difference that should not be overlooked!!!

We'd be lying, Stevie, if we said we were rooting for your work to achieve the needed financing.  But then again, we REALLY like both truthful existence and pizza.

Your thoughts

Sacrificing a pizza for his ministry seems like a half baked idea to me.

Keep up the good work, Jeremy.

In fact, last year, I had to personally take out a home equity loan to cover my salary for several months... or the mortgage wouldn't be paid, nor our children's tuition.

Am I the only one who finds it a bit questionable to take out any kind of loan to cover one's lack of income?

I suppose it would make sense if one was laid off and simply needed a way to make ends meet while looking for a new job or something. But that's not what he's doing at all. He's taking out loans and hoping more people will miraculously start financing his craziness in the future.

Actually, I take my original question back. I don't think it's questionable. I think it's totally irresponsible.

In additional to excerpt above, here's my favorite part of the pity plea from "Stephen Bennett Ministries Worldwide":

". . .Yet when I was called into this ministry, I came understanding several facts. First, it was ALL about Jesus Christ -- and NOT Stephen Bennett.

LOL @ Norm's comment! For real, his "ministry" is all about Stephen Bennett. I honestly believe his "becoming ex-gay" was all about him getting attention; to be recognized as a "recording artist" and all his other silly credentials.

In reality, nobody would buy his "music" (or his anti-gay rhetoric), but a small circle of fundies at least will give him the time of day LOL

The only thing about him that should garner any attention is the hilarity of him photoshopping his and Irene's teeth in most of their pics available online, and on his vanity website.

Thanks for reporting on this guy, G-A-Y - this is REALLY Stephen's cheapest stunt to date (as if his other attempts at getting paid aren't). A back-to-back begging for pizza money, and conjuring up the "gay boogeyman" - classic.

He took out a home equity loan to pay his mortgage.

Wouldn't that be like robbing Peter to pay Peter?

That's hysterical!

If gay is to be considered 'normal' and accepted like any other lifestyle, then why the need to market it? And why is the marketing about gay's lifestyle is most of the time sexually related? Gay mans live a very promiscuous lifestyle and THAT IS A FACT! Every other people does it too, but you don't see "Prostitute's parade" , because... it's obivous... but I don't get why then is OK to have "gay parade" when clearly what this community in general, probably not every one, but in general is definitely selling "what feels good, go for it". SEx is good go for it. Who cares about consequences. Who cares you could be doing to your partner, to your self and to who is watching. Don't you thing this is a very egocentric world most of the gay man lives in? If this is all about true feeling, than keep it true to yourself. Make it right. Is that is possible. Are you all able to live without having to have supports of others in the same path? Living a normal life with your partner, working having friends and a life time partner? I beleive some... but I am sure , most suffers through one promiscuous encounter to another.
Sorry, this is not against anybody... but I really don't get it. You are clearly born like a man. What changed that? If you are different you and your loved ones can help couple with it, but to market it as a way of making it right... its a bit funny...

Oh Feliz. You have much to learn about gay people, my friend.

Feliz honey... I'd correct you, but I'm so tired of explaining my life to idiots like you. Suffice to say that your comment exposed your stunning ignorance.

You also need to take another English class. I'm just sayin.
