Video: Have you hugged your gay kids today?
Here a G-A-Y we adore "ex-gay" survivor Peterson Toscano for his lighthearted take on the whole "former homosexual" concept. In this uncharacteristically serious and undeniably poignant video, he shows that he can also do the serious thing pretty well:
You know, those "ex-gay" programs really should come with a side effects list, just like those regularly featured in ads for prescriptions drugs. Maybe something like: "Users may experience unhappiness, a sense of unease, a disconnect between their inner desires and outward teaching, a strong desire to blame their parents, and a sudden urge to join the religious right in opposing rights for the community that you're trying to leave behind." As it stands, far too much of the potential collateral damage is going unacknowledged and, even more sadly, unresolved.
