Separation of queers and state

by Jeremy Hooper

Bath_3 Meanwhile, over in Idaho: A Republican candidate for the House, Walt Bayes, has actually gone so far as to suggest that gay teachers and students in the state's public schools should have to use separate restroom facilities from their 'rosexual peers.  The Idaho Press-Tribune has more:

Walt Bayes: Schools need separate bathrooms for gay students [Idaho Press-Tribune]

No word on how, exactly, Bayes plans to pinpoint which students have to use which facilities.  After all, at the elementary age, the lines of demarcation would be more easily drawn at who has cooties and who doesn't rather than the gay/straight divide.

Oh, and what about bisexuals?  Will they do "number one" in the front facility, and do "number two" in the rear?

There are just so many logistics to work out, so little time to mock them all!

Your thoughts

This reeks of similarities with ethnic separations in the past, will gay people soon have to use separate schools?

As for logistics, there are often people who are questioning, and many bi people who mainly like one more than the other. Do we segregate them all from their straight classmates?

Corvidae: Well yea, this is definitely one of those nutty proposals that is actually good for us. Most anyone can understand that this separation is downright wrong. And so the mere suggestion of it really highlights just how raging the bias against us can be.

Another candidate in the race, Jeff Justus of Meridian, said the proposal was not needed.

“We have a lot more important issues than that,” Justus said.

Why can't the candidates just come out and say it's offensive, segregationalist and homophobic? Even if there were no more important issues than that, it'd still be too disgusting to even consider...

Well the real question, anon, is why doesn't society DEMAND that they outright reject it? Why is extreme gay bias, even when rejected, still up for ANY sort of negotiation?!

If the issue was about racial segregation, I doubt any decent person would just say 'well, there are more important issues to discuss'. It's just sad.

I think that we, as gay men and women, should DEMAND separate bathrooms! Have you been in some of those public toilets! ;)

Where does a pansexual or queer fall into the equation? Gosh so many bathrooms so little time.

You just knew that somebody would come up with an idea like that. How stupid is this guy?

It reminds me of the scene in the principal's office from the original Porky's. Beulah Balbricker was demanding that the principal find the kid with the mole on his unit. The principal and the boy's coach started kicking around ideas like having a line-up or, the best yet, getting a sketch artist and putting up posters all around the school captioned, "Have you seen me?".

I've never laughed so hard in my life!

Conservatives are so hung up on the bathrooms. It's no wonder they found Larry Craig in one, and that other republican guy (Allen?) in Florida in the park john tryin to pay for the wild thing.

Idaho, eh? I've got Larry Craig jokes bubbling in my mind.

Y'all are absolutely right--this needs to be forcefully dismissed, not brushed off as "less important."

Thanks also for asking the question of where bis are supposed to go!

That's right GreenEyedLilo, we don't want those g'darned bi boys in our bathroom. While standing at the urinals "takin' a leak", they fart just like straight guys.
