Unfair actions speak louder than conscience-clearing words
According to California Majority Report, Frank Schubert, campaign manager for the gay ban-backers at ProtectMarriage.com, is vowing to be nicer than the average discriminator when he and his troops go about their undertaking of denying the equal rights of one certain suspect class. Majority Report reads:
It will be a kindler, gentler campaign to ban gay marriage, Frank Schubert, who will manage the effort to approve the initiative, told a meeting of the American Association of Political Consultants in Sacramento on Monday.
Predicting it will rival the presidential race for attention, Schubert said he will run a "positive, uplifting campaign."
"There will not be any gay bashing in our campaign," he said. "If other supporters try it, we will do everything we can to stop it."
Which sounds fine and good. Only problem for Mr. Schubert? A gloved fist is still capable of punching, and punching equality in the eye is exactly what this gay ban is all about, no matter how much these folks spin it. It's like that old Hollywood edict: "You can't polish a turd." Regardless of how these folks try to dress up their movement or pass the buck on their bias, history is still going to remember their exploit as unsavory.
The individual ban supporters may be genuinely nice people (we meet nice ones every day). However, the endeavor is unchangeably nasty.
