Dobson to enter annals

by Jeremy Hooper

Good As You Images Good As You Images 200807091400And now in news that very well could encourage young broadcasting students to adopt bias into their on-air personalities: Despite the reasoned outcry in opposition to the fact that his hyper-polarizing, gay-stigmatizing brand of radio was even considered for the honor, the National Radio Hall of Fame is, in fact, set to induct Focus on the Family head James Dobson into their annals. See GLAAD's response to the announcement at link:

GLAAD Statement on Induction of James Dobson’s Focus on the Family Ministry into National Radio Hall of Fame [G-A-Y]

::sigh:: And here everyone thought iPods were a bad development in the history of radio!

**UPDATE: Wayne Besen, who has led the opposition, has vowed to protest the November induction dinner:

Your thoughts

I really can't get too upset over this. I mean, you have to admit, the guy has had an enormous influence on talk radio. And while I disagree with pretty much every utterance that has come from his mouth, i must at least concede he's had a long and very conspicuous, if infamous to many, career in the radio and broadcasting business. I'm sure some day the equally loathsome Rush Limbaugh will be inducted if he hasn't already, and I certainly wouldn't begrudge him that honor either.

I dunno. Can't really get worked up over this one. Its not like he's getting an award for his humanitarian work or anything.

I find it ironic that Dobson's name will ultimately appear on the list of inductees right next to Lee DeForest. The latter is responsible for the invention of the Audion vacuum tube which made radio possible in the first place, and the former uses radio as a tool for hate mongering and divisiveness.

It's like Einstein's promise of unlimited energy through nuclear physics being used to make a bomb.

spalding - Yeah, I guess. And Limbaugh is already there.

there seem to be too many "n"'s in "annals".

I, too, read that as "Dobson to enter anals." But you already knew that.

Well that, my friends, is what we call wordplay ;-)
