Peter releases hit list; this writer thrilled to still be considered 'young'
Recently, this writer was honored to be nominated for the Brave Nation Young Activist Award. However, I think I might have just received a distinction that's even more prestigious, even more glamorous, and far more steeped in extremism.
The new honor? Well, along with my "reason-challenged" pals Pam Spaulding and Wayne Besen, I have been chosen by the oh-so-reasonable Peter LaBarbera as the 10th of the "20...good reasons why Christians (or anyone) should never feel guilty about a single-minded focus in countering the homosexual/transsexual activist and pro-abortion lobbies." Check it out:
A list that really only brings one question to mind: Does this mean we're entitled to some of the big HRC/GLAAD/MTV bucks now? I mean if we are just as or MORE Christian-threatening as any of those folks, shouldn't we get a piece of the Christian-threatening pie? Seriously -- hook a Christian-threatening brotha' up, "homosexual money-man" Tim Gill!
But one thing is for certain: Next year you're GOING DOWN, GLSEN! Yea, that;'s right -- you heard me. You all don't want a piece of Christian-threatening me!

Your thoughts
At least they were nice enough to call you "young" ...

You need to get that book deal, Jeremy! You certainly have the "cred" and there are probably a couple hundred literary agents within spitting distance of you (not to mention publishing houses).
Probably get a six-figure advance and then make the talk show circuit to promote it. THEN, you can go head-to-head, mano-a-mano with Perkins in interviews on FOX! Ten grand a pop for personal appearances!
The iron is hot my friend!

LOL.
This crap never ends!
However, congrats on making the top 20 list.
You are in good company!

Dick: Things are a'cooking. Stay tuned.
Though to be honest in terms of TV: I HATE the "Crossfire"-like, "Let's shout at each other" shows. I've been approached on more than one occasion. It really has to be the right tone to get my attention.

The wing nuts are going down! Let's hope that it happens sooner rather than later.

Wow, congratulations, Jeremy! You are listed among some great company. To varying degrees I admire all the people and organizations on the list. I'm actually a member of three of the listed organizations.

Jeremy,
I can't believe that MTV beat you out! That must hurt. Seriously, I'm guessing that because there are blue letters on the list that he provided links to your site as well as others? That's pretty cool. Even if one half ways open minded person links to you or one of the other sites there, maybe they will see who is really unreasonable.

Steve: No, the link actually posts back to an old piece that Pete wrote about me.

congratulations! good luck with that pie!

"I can't believe that MTV beat you out!"
Eh, MTV has sucked since the Real World season with Flora ended! LOL
Congrats on making the list, G-A-Y!
And a big LOL @ Wayne Besen = "ex-gay hating". In order for him to hate "ex-gays", there has to be such a thing as "ex-gay".

wow #10!! congrats!! I'm kinda jealous :-)

This is awesome! Thank you, Jeremy, (or rather, thank you Peter LaBarbera) for providing such a comprehensive list of charities that deserve my support, and will add to my list of charities.
I'll also be certain to forward this very helpful list to all my friends in case they were wondering who deserves their support.

Great work JH we know you have it in you!... or wherever. Really that is great. I am in 5 of those and read GOOD and PHB every day! ... Thanks for signing her card by the way.
Now about these shows you won't/haven't/aren't on yet.... are you going to warn ... I mean let us know ahead of time so we can watch... even way out West here?
Posted by: LOrion | Jul 9, 2008 11:57:27 PM
Congratulations, Jeremy. Though, in all seriousness, I'd probably be doublechecking my alarm system about now. Some of the zealots who'll read that are quite scary.

Ah, don't worry, Jamie. I have a really intimidating attack Shih Tzu to protect me and my family. :-)
I mean seriously -- could he be more frightening:

I'm really glad they used the hyphens for clarity in NOW's "promote both lesbianism and abortion-on-demand" because I almost misinterpreted it as also providing lesbianism on demand, which would be pretty dang neato.
They should also add GLAD to their list, up there at #3 with Lamba. GLAD is New England's home-grown Lambda. They won the marriage victory in Mass. and countless other smaller rights cases for the GLBT and HIV communities. http://www.glad.org
Also, I recommend everyone who can donate money to any or all of the orgs and elected officials on that list (and click on ads on the bloggers' pages).

I agree with Micheal(post #12). When looking at all the GLBT groups there are, I say "Gee golly, how do I choose the most Christian-threatening of the bunch?" Now I have this handy list! Thanks Peter LaBarbera.
Now I'm off to make my "I *heart* Tim Gill" T-shirt.

Yikes, that's on ferocious attack dog! The wingnuts are forewarned. . .

There's an old maxim that says "Judge a man's success not by his friends but by his enemies." I think Pete pretty much validated want a wonderful job your doing. Keep up the great work!

I hope you had a good hour or so worth of laughs at the deliciousness of being called "Reason-challenged" by someone like that noob.
Posted by: Eric | Jul 10, 2008 10:49:47 AM
An hour? Eric, I've had perma-grin ever since I saw it!
Posted by: G-A-Y | Jul 10, 2008 10:57:12 AM
Wow - This being "Porno Pete" LaBarbera, I'm really surprised he didn't include the International Mr. Leather event on the list.
Posted by: Dan | Jul 10, 2008 11:06:23 AM
well you can blame that most excellent role model tila tequila on mtv for beating you out. remember, she was the catalyst for gay marriage in california.
