'We're here, we're anti-queer -- get used to our hostile lyrics!'

by Jeremy Hooper

Holy mother of fading Manhattan: What the hell is happening to our beloved NYC? First came word of the horribly homophobic sign that's been posted at a West Village Rite Aid location. Now comes this:

(PRWEB) July 7, 2008 -- TCOOO Productions the label behind the "18 Karat Reggae" CD series is holding the first ever Straight Pride Parade in Brooklyn, New York on August 31, 2008. The parade will take place on Eastern Parkway along the same route as the annual Caribbean labor day parade.

New reggae / dancehall sensation Jango Fresh said, "the Straight pride parade is a great idea because when a song like "Hit them hard" by my label mate Stapler can be banned just because it stresses the importance of a male and a female in every family, it is a sign that heterosexuals need to wake up.

Straight Pride Parade to be Held in New York City [PR Newswire]

200807071015Organizers say they are arranging this ridiculous, obviously anti-gay event to counter the "attacks" that have been waged on reggae by gay activists. Because apparently to them, it's the gay activists who have been "radical" enough to speak out against lyrics that encourage killing gay people that are in the wrong and on the offensive, not those who've written and performed said songs. You know, it's that old, "Yes I punched you in the face, but your screams were really loud and hurt my ears" line of defense.

::long, extended sigh::

It remains to be seen if New Yorkers will turn out in any markable numbers for this thoroughly discouraging anti-civil rights march. But this Upper East Side writer certainly hopes not, as moving out of town is such a hassle.

**After the jump, the pointedly homo-hostile lyrics to the "Hit them Hard" song mentioned in the press release:

Hit Them Hard - Stapler

(chorus)

Jah Jah gonna hit them hard
All the men who visit men backyard
Leaving all the women to starve
One thunder ball and all of them pause

Hand in hand with my lady
Hug her and kiss her cause she carried my baby
But some boys moving shady
While am chilling on the ends making sweet love to Sadie
All I know am here to produce and all the ladies you are my friends
From the past, the present, the future my girl, love and respect to the end

(chorus)

Remember you are a King, what happened to your queen
The youths need a role model to instill self esteem
So live your life clean
and you will see what I mean

(chorus)

The world is spinning and everything in it
Mankind lose their way, some gone past their limit
Am here to advice and to be a critic
Be careful of the lifestyle you choose to exibit
Children live what they learn
Aren't you concerned
of your choices in society
We need to preserve the value of a male and a female in every family

Your thoughts

Isn't every other parade the Straight Pride Parade?

Just visited their website and posted. Thanks to you a lot of this crap would be under the radar. Thanks for the info.

Posted as Albert Garvey: This is such bulls***. A straight pride parade? Are you so threatened by the people you put down 364 days a year, that the one day that gays and lesbians have a parade celebrating themselves frightens you? You're ignorant and a detriment to the human race. Why don't you take care of your own, rather than have a baby with most every female you meet? Why don't you feed and clothe your children rather than spend money on shiny material objects? Maybe even become more active in your children's lives and fight to better their education rather then spend useless energy on a parade? You know what? Gay people aren't going anywhere and chances are you have gay people in your family.

I know of what I speak. I used to hang out with rastas back in the day.

So who's organizing the ironic anti-straight protest? I'll start working on my placard that says "Breeders burn in Hell" right now!

These reggae guys are such cowards. They're getting nailed hard for writing and performing murder music, so what do they do? Instead of taking their punishment like men, they try to re-frame the argument and cast themselves as 'pro-family' artists. It shows just how well the campaign against murder music is working. Look at them scurry for cover. Eunuchs on parade.

My little exchange with the intellectuals at TCOOO:

----------------------------------------------------
It's spelled Leviticus.

Man up, dude. Admit you hate the gays and you write murder music. Don't dread your karma, mon.

Murder Music? You mean the kind you hear from Eminem and numerous other hip hop artist yet you choose to boycott reggae.

Go to any church or place of worship on Saturday or Sunday and you will hear what you call"murder" music... Read your bible in Exodus and Liviticus, yet you put all your energy on little Jamaica and Reggae.... Tell me who are the real cowards?

Instead of taking your punishment for murder music like men, you try to re-cast yourselves as 'pro-family' advocates? That makes you a bunch of hilarious cowards. Eunuchs on parade.

The honorable thing to do is to disown murder music first, then pursue whatever hetero-only agenda you want - with your dignity intact. I am not surprised that you have opted to scurry away and make like you never did anything wrong. It's perfecly in character.

Funny, I've always thought of the world around me as one gigantic straight pride parade.

I'm bi, who's going to bet I'm not welcome unless I want my ex boyfriends dead?

Posted by: Corvidae | Jul 8, 2008 12:27:56 PM

Just read this and it sickens me. Like straights need protection and pride parades! Just for that I have NO intention of ever buying reggae.

So will we see any gay activists protesting at the Straight march? Or is it too politically-incorrect to protest against black people? Or is it too dangerous? Let's see.

Heterosexuals have nothing to be proud of.

Heterosexuals have EVERYTHING to be proud of damit !

Posted by: straight | Apr 29, 2009 4:10:14 PM

Wow, this is so hypocritical. All of YOU must be the ones who feel afraid. Straights are starting to stand up for what they want to believe in, but then you say no, no, no, and then stand up for what you want to believe in? You people are despicable. We're a detriment to the human race? No. You are. Over 90% of anyone who is a homosexual is emotionally unstable or has some sort of mental disorder due to a child trauma. You're worthless and you always will be.
