Andy takes 'Towle' on Bill Donohue
Congratulations, Andy Towle. For you have just joined the ranks of Bill Maher and Kathy Griffin (among countless others) in being name checked by one of this country's most omnipresent reactionaries, the Catholic League's Bill Donohue!
This from a Catholic League press release:
Over 120 blogs have been credentialed as members of the media for the Democratic National Convention; those who have received credentials are allowed to cover the Convention at the Pepsi Center. While most of them offer legitimate commentary, some do not.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue is protesting two of the blogs:
“The list of credentialed blogs include radical sites like The Daily Kos. Worse are blogs that feature anti-Catholic and obscene material. The two most offensive are Bitch Ph.D. and Towleroad.
...
“Towleroad describes itself as ‘A Site with Homosexual Tendencies.’ Accordingly, it shows men in jock straps and underwear. It also has a post on Pope Benedict XVI that takes him to task for wearing a cape with ermine. Some of those who commented on this described the pope in a vile and profane way."
Wait, some Towleroad readers have had some less-than-positive things to say about the Pope? Hmm. Well, his holiness has described the lives and loves of people like Andy as being an "intrinsic moral evil," so we're thinking that in terms of backyard games, a handful of unflattering blog comments might still be the scissors to the Vatican's gay-excluding rock!
But whatever. Congrats, A.T!

Your thoughts
How about digging up Bill's email so we can share our thoughts on the Democrats including the offensive and obscene catholics at their convention? I would guess most democrats support a pro-choice stance, and are fairly offended at the church's efforts to systematically cover-up years and years of child assault and abuse by their priests. Just saying . . .

If Bill Donahue thinks THAT'S offensive, maybe he'd like my opinion that if the Vatican ever comes under a massive attack (bombs or otherwise), it would look like a real-life Sodom and Gomorrah in its final moments - ancient sissies screaming and flailing in their disco capes, and dragging their little slave boys with them.
Why anyone pays these nuts any mind is beyond me. After all, they were partly behind the holocaust.

marc, Most republicans are pro-choice as well! They put up with that pandering to a small subset of the population because they know that it doesn't make any difference. Legal abortions are a matter of fact, and paying lip-service to the radical religious factions doesn't and won't change that. The politicians certainly are not going to work to pass legislation that will eliminate their wedge issue.
One problem that they had in 2006 was that the state referendums were too effective at stomping on same-sex marriage in 2004, so it couldn't be used effectively as a wedge in '06. The state referendums can't do that to Roe v. Wade, and the politicians won't attempt to overturn it. As a wedge, it is effective at keep some portion of the single-issue voters voting against their best interests and for the candidate offering the best lip-service to "pro-life".

My mouth fell open when I read this story. Towleroad is a wonderfully done journalistic media outlet for gay men. (For that matter, so is Good As You.)
It is by no means a trashy tabloid.
Shocking! Bill Donohue is so filled with hatred. He's the Catholic Fred Phelps.
Poor Jesus, he has such bad P.R. reps.
