Heavy-handed Headline writers on a Rampage

by Jeremy Hooper

Alright, so if you go and read this One News Now commentary wherein "pro-family" write Mike Adams tries to put religious beliefs ahead of reasonable healthcare, you will see that it is far from gay-friendly. However, we cannot for the life of us figure out what this extremely crude, sensationalistic headline has to do with the piece:

Picture 11-89

Sure, Mr. Adams makes passing references to obesity and crack cocaine when he says the following:

Imagine for a moment that we were to forbid a counselor from expressing her objection to overeating, despite proven health risks, simply because the obese individual likes to eat and claims some genetic predisposition to obesity.

Or imagine for a moment that we were to forbid a counselor from expressing her objection to over-drinking, despite proven health risks, simply because the drunken individual likes to drink and claims some genetic predisposition to alcoholism. (Or, worse, imagine she likes crack!).

But you don’t have to imagine forbidding a counselor from expressing her objection to homosexuality, despite proven health risks, simply because the gay individual likes homosexuality and claims some genetic predisposition to gayness.

But these two minor references don't at all define what the 696 word piece is actually about, so why would "Fat Lesbians on Crack" be used to describe a piece regarding patient rights versus religious freedom? Is it a dummy headline that they never intended anyone to see? Or is it that the headline is intentionally over-the-top in hopes that it'll prove provocative?

Well we don't know and we're not going to speculate further. But it's certainly an eyebrow-raising development from a site and organization that routinely has our furrowed forehead strips in the stratosphere.

Your thoughts

I wonder if the counselor's employer, or the CDC has a non-discrimination policy. If so, this could be considered a violation of that policy.

This is also posted on Townhall.

This is what Mike Adams does: He's very Anti-Gay and from alot of the columns I've read by him he's very proud of that fact.

Here are some the titles of his columns:

University Awards Criminal Justice Degree to Cocaine Dealer
Hannah and Her Blisters
Radical, Feminism Wants You Dead
Feminist Causes Outbreak of Genital Irritation
A (Half) Black Man Can
Incest is Best When Kept in the Family
Al Sharpton: Nappy Headed Race Ho?
It ain't over 'til the fat lesbian sings

And you know what it works he's one of the most popular columnist on Townhall - and the more outrageous the title the more comments he gets.

Speaking of AFA's One News Now, it appears that they have recently eliminated the commenting feature. I wonder why. Might there be a story to tell?

I understand that, at one time, it was not uncommon for people to literally hide crazy family members in the attic, so as not to hurt the family's reputation. Maybe that's what is going on here. As crazy as the AFA/ONN writers are, their dues-paying supporters are several orders of magnitude crazier. And stupid. If I ran the AFA, I'd want to keep them hidden away too, while continuing to feed them enough propaganda so they keep sending money.

Or maybe AFA/ONN is in a financial crunch, and they had to lay off all the censors who made sure that intelligent comments didn't get published (except for just a few so they could appear fair and balanced).

Thanks for the insight, Alonzo.

"so why would 'Fat Lesbians on Crack' be used"

I'll be happy to say it: because Adams is a jerk who wouldn't know the Gospel if it hit him upside the head. I'd say that he hails from that particularly noxious stream of Christianity (reflected in most other religions too sadly) that excuses any words or actions no matter how eggregious as long as it is done in the for the glory of God. Boy are these folks in for a surprise at the Pearly Gates...

I was upset to see that comments are no longer a part of the Onenewsnow website. Granted, they rarely let an opposing viewpoint slip through, I was thoroughly entertained by the ridiculousness of their respondants! Now what am I going to read for a laugh during my lunch hour?

In regards to the comment section on ONN's website - they were hacked about 2 weeks ago they said that the comment section would return soon.

I doubt it will happen mainly because I think they have been tipped off that sites like G-A-Y repost some of those comments and by doing so we get to see behind the whole "love the sinner, hate the sin" façade they try to portray themselves as being.

Mike Adams claims that he is a born-again Christian who was once an atheist liberal. There is nothing like atheist who has found religion. The title of his latest column was truly beyond the pale. Adams had three columns about a week ago about Crystal Dixon being fired at the University of Toledo. Currently, the poor fellow is fixated on the premise that Christians are under attack from the great gay menance.

Charles said, "Mike Adams claims that he is a born-again Christian who was once an atheist liberal."

Christians love to showcase people who claim to have once been atheists. It's more likely that they were irreligious, not really atheists.

Here's a link to a post on a respected atheist blog that addresses this topic:

These nuts are definitely in La-La Land!!!

There's no such thing as a "fat lesbian on crack" - only "skinny". And if they are overweight while on crack, they won't be for much longer! LOL

Hehehe--good lookin' out, Scott! Think I'd rather stay a size 16 than adopt the Winehouse Diet, though.

I noticed the ONN comments were gone, too. Richard, I like your theories. They did recently make some very big donations, so maybe they are in a bit of a financial bind. I'd have to sniff a whole bag of diced onions to shed a tear for them if that were the case.

As for Mike Adams, well, let him keep writing, and let him keep getting meaner and crazier. Ultimately, he's not helping anybody.

And I say all this as someone who actually agreed with the original counselor's decision! I thought it was good of her to try referring the client to someone who could help, knowing she couldn't give the help the client needed. This isn't the first time a counselor has done that. As a bi woman who has gone to counseling for unrelated issues, I know that some will blast an L, G, B, or T client about their queerness and not even touch the real issue that brought them in. It's like a medical doctor who gives a colonoscopy when you come in because you accidentally amputated one of your own limbs with a chainsaw.
