Oz-based friend of Dorothy wins Au-based medal
In the waning days of the now-departed Beijing games, out Australian diver Matthew Mitcham not only gave us the gay moment we were all looking for -- he also provided a fantastic moment of TV drama when he unexpectedly upset his Chinese competition to clinch gold in the 10m platform. By Greg, it was quite a Lou-gay-nerific moment!
Did you miss it? Well our athletically-minded pals over at Outsports have more on Mitcham's victory, as well as a bit of controversy (because there always is some) concerning the way NBC handled the diver's love life. Go check those out:

Your thoughts
I haven't watched that other yet. But upon reading the headline on 355 today, I went in and watched the 30M Platform Diving Finals tape on NBC... They only mention that Matthew 'took time off for personal and family reasons two years ago, and has been back less than one year.' I thought that was fine. Details unnecessary... and I really wished I had watched LIVE!..

Yeah they definitely rushed through the coverage and since it was taped they really didn't show anything other than the actual diving. This was the case in other sports as well that didn't showcase american athletes so I'm not sure NBC went out of their way to not show him kissing his partner or making mention that he was gay.
