FL poll: Yay, not enough of a majority is against us!

by Jeremy Hooper

Picture 10-98A newly released Sun Sentinel / Florida Times-Union poll shows that the state's proposed constitutional blight, Amendment 2, has only managed to seize the support of 53% of the state's likely voters. And while in other states this majority percentage would be bad for those who are in favor of equality, the Florida measure actually needs 60% in order to muddy the Sunshine State's constitution with unfairness. So in this case, 53% is actually a good thing:

So it's kind of like back in the day when you were on the school playground, minding your own business, picking honeysuckles while thinking about the subtle nuances in last night's "Facts of Life" episode, when all of a sudden a horde of bullies came up to mess with ya. But even though they outnumbered you, there weren't enough of them to form a full circle around your body, so you were able to eek an escape through an opening in the body chain. This is pretty much the same thing. Your gay butt is still not gonna win the popularity contest -- but at least there aren't enough hostile children to make your booty-kicking inevitable!

Take comfort in that, Florida gays.
