Wherein we kid a flying kid
The anti-gay side has launched yet another pro-Prop 8 site. We, however, couldn't get past the opening graphic:
So why did this pic make us take pause? Well, because where it could just be a simple image showing a round of that oddly-accepted parental game known as "here, let me throw and risk dropping you for a fleeting moment of generic fun," we think our opposition could instead be trying to convey other, more fear-mongery points. We have some ideas about what those could be:
- They're depicting the day after Prop 8 fails, when the magnetic pull of an unchallenged gay agenda will suck all young children out of their heterosexual parents' arms.
-It's a gay dude who's casting a magical "recruitment spell" on a soon-to-turn-lesbian.
- Two words: The rapture.
- The day after Prop 8 fails, when God will be so annoyed and apathetic that he'll just start spitting souls out of the sky rather than waiting for the whole reproductive process.
- It's a young girl who is so tormented by her gay dads and so desperate for escape that she has prayed for an obtained the gift of flight.
- It's not that the girl is being thrown. It's that the world, post marriage equality, has literally crumbled under our feet, with this once stable family now in its thirteenth hour of free fall
-The popular same-sex wedding activity: "Screw the bouquet -- let's instead toss the flower girl"
Ya see? So many possibilities! You can go check out the deceptive, discriminatory, and disingenuous site if you want to form your own thoughts:
What is Prop 8? [WIP8]
Your thoughts
I don't know if it would be "stooping to their level"...but I always thought that the best counter ads to their absolutley moronic ads, would be to show a child - a nice, healthy, 5 or 6 year old child...you know, in pig tails, or with an elmo shirt on...a nice happy boy or girl anyone would love to have as their child... then ask them simple child questions... say the alphabet...whats your favorite cartoon... whats your favorite book... adorable kid stuff...show them playing with puppies and playing in the backyard, picking flowers or playing soccer...then sit them down with their two moms or their two dads... and let them say to the camera what their moms/dads explained to them about how some kids have 2 mommies, or 2 daddies, or one mommy, or a mommy and a daddy...and let the world see how freaking normal they are.
I'm not a big fan of Rosie O'Donnell...just cuz Ive never been that into "in your face" kind of personalities...but I remember watching on HBO her like..rosie's family cruise thingie...and they showed 2 men getting married and their 3 or four children being involved in the wedding... and i mean ADORABLE children, makes the kids from jon and kate plus 8 look like mutants... and i remember thinking God what a good family they will be...and how adorable and nice and normal their kids are...not that i ever thought children with gay parents (or any situation other than mom/dad) WEREN'T normal...but it was refreshing to actually SEE it you know?
I think that would be an awesome counter argument.

ALSO- Just to add to my lengthy idea...I think what made me realize this is I remember seeing the two old ladies...I can't remember their names, forgive me...they'd been together for like 55 years and just got married in June and one of them passed away last month...I think things like that show homosexuality for what it really is... just people... people like Matt LaBarber and all those freakin right wing crazies at organizations like FotF and CWFA try to depict gays and lesbians as nothign mroe than fetish and sex and penis and vagina and anal sex and whatever...notice how they harp on the gay pride parades and s&m stuff, things that, in reality make up like .01 percent of what gay people are, and many are not at all... I think seeing the two little old ladies...little meemaws who like, probably make soda bread and jam and knit sweaters... at least for me, put SUCH a better total well rounded face on homosexuality. I love gay people, have always been pro gay, but seeing that actually brought tears to my eyes and I remember thinking like, wow...this really puts a great face to the cause.
Sorry, I know this was really lengthy!

I think anyone that reads this with a facebook account should report their facebook groups as they are against the facebook code of conduct.

Wait, why are they against the code of conduct?

I think that is one of those fundie women who has been fasting and praying for the last week. So much so that she has lost a couple hundred pounds of heft. And now, when she walks, she bounds so high in the air that she needs someone to catch her as she descends.
But more than that, what I see is child abuse! Kinda like Michael Jackson dangling his baby over the edge of a balcony rail. Tossing a kid three feet in the air has to be (borderline at least) child endangerment. I wonder how they would explain those bruises to the authorities.
