Hmm..do you think God had to stand in a long voting line?

by Jeremy Hooper

Speaking of the apparent "success" of California's cruel, mean-spirited, divisive, unscrupulous, unsavory, non-family, theocratically minded, discriminatory, unethical, unsound, irreligious, unconstitutional, un-American, irresponsible, marginalizing, hate-encouraging, scorn-deserving, someday-to-be-seen-for-the-blight-that-it-is-on-society "yes on 8" campaign, leader Ron Prentice has issued the following quote:

We know that God has gone before us,” Ron Prentice, executive director of the California Family Council, said. “Tens of thousands of people were praying over the weekend … praying and fasting for 40 days to give victory to California and protect marriage."

So hear that, gays and lesbians?  It wasn't just your fellow citizens of this world who chose to eliminate your right to equal marriage access.  No, no -- also the head honcho of eternity was on board to pull the lever against our open bars, chicken dances, and civil rights.  So if you think you're going to find peace in death, then you have another thing coming.  The first thing that will greet you in the afterlife is an anti-intellectual ad about "protecting children."

::writer rolls eyes so disgustedly, he's sure Mr. Prentice will blame the devil for infusing his dirty soul with a capacity for sarcastic eye gestures::

It remains to be seen if Ron will next encourage his fellow evangelicals to stop and think that maybe, just maybe, it's completely jacked up to hijack a deity for a political campaign in which the goal is to deny others civil -- CIVIL, CIVIL, church-separated CIVIL -- rights.  But if you're holding your breath waiting for that to happen, you're likely to head to the apparently gay-unfriendly afterlife sooner rather than later.

Your thoughts

I expect that at some point the fundies will try too hard and reach too far -- like they did w/ abortion this time (CA, SD, CO), but an even broader target. Maybe getting rid of no-fault divorce, or something else regarding adoption. Maybe at that point the rest of the population will wake up and realize the wrongs they've committed, but I'm not gonna hold my breath for this to happen any time soon.

I'm still pissed.

[Sets aside atheism] I can only imagine what all this might look like to God. He's probably LHHAO at all the petty silliness and unbridled arrogance. On the other hand, if Proverbs 6:16-19 is any indication - he will not be pleased one bit. Silly Christians, did they somehow forget that this God guy they claim to love so much hates things like killing, lying, and hypocrisy? According to the laws written in the Bible, those are very serious violations. If I were them I would be very concerned that my eternity might not be as heavenly and blissful as I had hoped it would be. I know one thing for sure, I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end when this God guy opens up his can of Divine Whoopass so I would do everything I could to avoid it. [Picks up atheism and resumes normal operation]

As Jesus said in Excretions 4:12 "You are the salt of the earth...to rub in the wounds of minorities."
