Video: The ones who just need more exposure
We believe the guy in this video is earnest. We believe he, through his own life experiences and studies, has genuinely come to the conclusion that he states in this little commentary. We believe he is wholly confident in his logic's infallibility. For these reasons, we believe he gives us a perfect example of why we must never stop talking to our opposition and trying to open their eyes:
The problem, of course: That he works from a place that automatically, inconvertibly, emphatically says homosexuality is "immoral." He states his position on "sexual desires" in the same way we might say that the sky is blue, grass is green, or "Heroes" is unlikely to ever recover from its creative descent. It doesn't seem to occur to him that there are millions of other people who see gays and lesbians as perfectly "moral." Genuinely. He doesn't seems to have an inkling of this knowledge. This doesn't look so much like a case of willful ignorance towards dissenting views, but rather a complete failure to realize that there is a strong dissent.
We deal so much with the professional "pro-family" groups, for whom shuttering dissent is an art form, that we sometimes forget people like the dude in this video. There are scores of men and women who, in large part to the misinformation propagation of the aforementioned "pro-family" groups, have ensconced themselves in arenas where only their own viewpoints are supported. Because of societal heterosexism, they have had their straight-only views emboldened by friends, neighbors, media outlets, churches, etc. Their exposure to actual, living, breathing LGBT people is oftentimes minimal, at best. They are the ones who we need to reach. They are the ones whose eye-blinders we need to remove. They are the ones who need encouragement to think about this situation deeply and analytically, using the complex human mind in the fully engaged way that any God powerful enough to gift it would surely want us to.
Is Gay The New Black? [GodTube]
Your thoughts
Absolutely, we need more exposure/media coverage of gays living and interacting in society at all levels. These people require time and handling to deprogram. They also need to have the fact that in America we have freedom to express ideas, every one of us. We do not need his approval to live in a diverse society. He is the one losing out with his myopia. Just have a well known beloved friend such as a nurse, or community worker, or teacher let him know that they are gay. It is astounding how their image of 'badness' can change.
This is where PFLAG is such a good resource, they have perfected ways to discuss all these problems with community members.

As Maya Angelou put it:
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.
BUT JK Galbraith really nailed it: Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.

People we need to educate the folks on blogs like Godtube. I challenge you to sign up with Godtube, especially if you are a Christian or another God believing faith (i.e. Jewish) and talk openly and frankly to people like this. Educate them. Lets do it!

First of all, nice garage. This is one reason I don't video blog; I don't want anybody to see my filth.
Second, am I the only one who hasn't heard people saying "Gay is the new black"?
Third, "...they need to show why sexual preference is absolutely completely an amoral thing, meaning no morality is involved. And that is a task that is virtually impossible."
Okay, no it's not. The information about the Bible not saying what they think it says (through mistranslation and misappropriation) has been out there for some time.

I'd also encourage people to see the documentary "For the Bible Tells Me So" to get a look into the issue from a decidedly pro-gay point of view that you won't see in a lot of places.
Benjamin, I'm going to give it a shot with this guy (though I'm not too excited about it; Godtube is fundie central), but I've tried talking to people like this (as recently as two days ago), and my experience is that they won't hear it. They tend to either shut down completely and keep repeating what's been proven false or they start quoting NARTH or Dobson.

Well, I tried. I put two comments in, several hours apart, and neither has been posted. Meanwhile, the gay-bashing comments are going through just fine. Keep in mind that godtube was started because people were freaking out over their videos being housed on the same server as rock videos and such over at youtube.
And godtube apparently has a program that bleeps the word "sex".

I send this out all the time. The reason fundamentalists are so determined to stop gay marriage is they literaly fear God will hurl fireballs to the earth like in the story of Sodom and Gomorah. They are the most frightened people on Earth. They fear God will punish them if they don't stop others from sining. They will never admit to that and make up other reasons like sanctity of marriage or that it's un natural and things like that. They believe the Bible literaly word for word and they think God manipulated man to write it so that it's the "word of God". Fundamentalists and extreme zionist Christians are the most dangerous people on Earth and it is imperative to the survival of all mankind that they NEVER get enough power to take over the government or the military or gays, Jews, Catholics, Athiests, and educated people will be killed on a massive scale as history has demonstrated of these types all too many times.
