Frank, totality of congress barred from 'take lover to work' day festivities
Openly gay congressman Barney Frank was denied in his request to bring boyfriend Jim Ready to the House floor. But before you cry "homophobia," you should know that the barring was not an anti-gay move: it was because of a sweepingly anti-partner House rule. This from The Hill:
Last week Frank approached the Speaker’s Lobby with Ready, who was spotted wearing a green blazer and the traditional congressional spouse pin, and asked to bring him into the Chamber. He was told no.
The rules are that no spouse or life partner — gay, straight, male, female — is allowed on the floor. Only a lawmaker’s children are allowed to accompany a parent into the chamber.
Frank took the news in stride and didn’t make any trouble. After being told why he could not bring Ready onto the floor, he reacted amiably, saying he understood the reasoning.

So basically if he WOULD have been allowed, then in this particular instance there would've been some credence to the far-right's constant "special rights" claims. None of us want to see that baseless nugget given any fuel. And so when it comes to war, we absolutely want to see a Congress prepared in ways quite unlike what we saw with Iraq, but when it comes to Barney's right to bring his dude to work in ways dissimilar from Stabenow or Pelosi: We're actually glad congress wasn't "Readied."
Your thoughts
I find it interesting that they don't want adults other than congressmen on the floor.
Maybe they don't want to be overheard when doing their dastardly deeds.
