'Hairy Partner and His Half-Equal Prince'

by Jeremy Hooper

Len-DeoRegarding the media's coverage of the marriage equality that will inevitably make its way to New Jersey in the coming months as a replacement for the state's inadequate civil unions system, New Jersey Family Policy Council's Len Deo tells One News Now:

"The mainstream media is falling all over them like it's the release of another Harry Potter book," he adds. "It's just unbelievable that a report of this nature would receive such widespread acclaim in the mainstream media."

We reply:

No, Mr. Deo: Your side, with your constant barrage of nonsensical phrases like 'marriage is under attack,' are the ones who are treating marriage equality like a work of fantasy fiction. The rest of us, mainstream media included, are treating the situation like what it is: A modern civil rights matter, wherein grown adults are fighting for the respect and protections to which they are entitled!

This matter is not about Harry Potter and his friend Ron --
It's about a hairy potter and his lover Steve. It's not about Hermione -- It's about a lesbian's right to find true love and make "her my one." It's not about Dumbledore -- It's about...uhm, okay, yea -- it IS about Dumbledore. But the point is that for those of us impacted by it, this marriage equality thing doesn't happen in a magical imaginary land. It's not a Qudditch match. It is a real life matter, and its denial is a real life curse.

But Mr. Deo, you
are right about one thing. Just like Harry Potter, marriage equality is a concept so easy to comprehend, even a child can understand it. And it is they, the younger generations, who will help us close the book of bias so that we can all be free to write our own happily ever afters.

Your thoughts

I think that Len Deo is just pissed that ONN is the only "media outlet" (and I do use that term very loosely with regard to them) that will print anything from him. His state of Pissedoffedness being due to the face that none of the rest of the media gives a crap that he even has an opinion.

I'm not certain about the "marriage under attack" thing, but I'm certain we will soon hear that for every gay marriage, a puppy will die.
